In addition, Google Cloud plans to invest in a cloud region in Kuwait, its third in the Middle East after Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and is considering opening an office in the country.
The Gulf region is investing heavily in digital technologies to improve efficiency in the government sector and make public services more accessible online. The move is also part of an effort to diversify economies that are heavily reliant on oil. There is increasing competition among international players, including Chinese firms such as Huawei, for cloud service contracts as part of Gulf national economic transformation plans. No financial details of the agreement between Google Cloud and the Kuwaiti government were disclosed.
