Baidu’s Autonomous Robotaxis Now Operating in Wuhan at Night Without Safety Drivers

Chinese internet giant Baidu is making significant progress in the field of autonomous vehicles, with its robotaxis now operating in the city of Wuhan from 7am to 11pm without safety drivers in the driver’s seats. The expanded programme aims to cover one million customers in some areas of Wuhan, a city of over 10 million people. Previously, Baidu’s unmanned vehicles were only allowed to be deployed in the city from 9am to 5pm. In contrast to Tesla’s vision-based solution, Baidu uses a combination of third-party cameras, radar, and lidar to assist its cars in low visibility situations.
