WhatsApp to End Support for Outdated Smartphones on December 31

Instant messaging app WhatsApp has announced that it will be ending its services for certain smartphones with outdated operating systems on December 31. According to The Independent, the Meta-owned messaging app will no longer be able to support the upgraded version of the app with future updates for these older devices. A statement from WhatsApp explained that the company regularly reviews which operating systems it supports and makes updates, and that older devices and software may not have the latest security updates or the necessary functionality to run the app. Users of these affected devices will receive a warning message before the app stops working on their phones.

If you are an iPhone user, you can update your operating system by going to the “general” settings and selecting “software update.” The following is a list of phones that will no longer be supported by WhatsApp after 31 December:
